Insulating gas mask IP-4
The isolating gas mask IP-4, unlike the filtering ones, completely isolates the respiratory organs from the environment. The breathing in the IP-4 gas mask takes place due to the supply of oxygen located in the gas mask itself and produced by the RP-4 cartridge. Insulating gas mask IP-4 is used when it is impossible to use filter gas masks, in particular, with a lack of oxygen in the environment, at very high concentrations of OM, when working under water.
The insulating gas mask IP-4 is designed to protect the respiratory system, eyes, face and head of a person during emergency operations. These gas masks allow you to work even where oxygen is completely absent: during accidents, natural disasters, sabotage. Insulating gas mask IP-4 MK is used in an atmosphere unsuitable for breathing, including those containing chlorine (up to 10%), ammonia, hydrogen sulfide. Insulating gas mask IP-4 MR – a regulated gas mask. It is completed with a regenerative cartridge and can be used together with a protective suit.
The principle of operation of an insulating gas mask is based on the release of oxygen from chemicals during the absorption of carbon dioxide and moisture exhaled by humans. The IP-4 gas mask works reliably in the temperature range from minus 40 ° to plus 40 ° C. It consists of a front part, a regenerative cartridge, a breathing bag and a bag. In addition, anti-fog films are included in the IP-4 gas mask kit and insulation cuffs can sometimes be supplied.
The front part of the isolating gas mask protects the respiratory system from environmental influences, directs exhaled air to the RP and brings the gas mixture purified from carbon dioxide and enriched with oxygen to the respiratory system, and also protects the eyes and face. The RP-4 regenerative cartridge provides oxygen for breathing, the absorption of carbon dioxide and moisture from exhaled air. The cartridge case is equipped with a regenerative product in which a starting briquette is installed. Sulfuric acid, resulting in the destruction of the built-in ampoule, heats the regenerative product, and thereby intensifies its work. In addition, the starting briquette provides the oxygen necessary for respiration in the first minutes.
The respiratory bag serves as a reservoir for the exhaled gas mixture and oxygen released by RP-4. Flanges are located on it, with the help of which the RP-4 and the overpressure valve are connected. The latter releases excess air from the respiratory system, and is also necessary in order to maintain the right amount of gas under water in the breathing bag.
The bag is designed to store and carry a gas mask. Because Since the front part of the insulating gas mask does not have sufficient thermal protective properties, it is recommended to work in it with a hood of a protective suit put on the head.
The oxygen supply in RP-4 allows you to perform work in an insulating gas mask with heavy physical exertion for 45 minutes, with medium – 70 minutes, and with light and in a state of relative rest – 3 hours.
