The CCCP State Security Committee (KGB) is the central union-republican government body of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the field of ensuring state Security, in force from 1954 to 1991.
From the moment of its creation until March 14, 1990, it worked under the direct supervision and control of the CPSU Central Committee.
On December 3, 1991, it was reformed under the leadership of Vadim Bakatin to the Inter-Republican Security Service of the USSR and later its role was adopted by Russian FSB (Federal Security Service).
